YMMV / South Park S 1 E 13 Cartmans Mom Is A Dirty Slut

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Liane's promiscuity is put in a tragic light after "Tsst" showed that she's desperate for any kind of companionship.
    • It's a bit harder to feel sorry for Cartman's insecurity about not having a father after "201" reveals that he MURDERED AND CANNIBALIZED his own father, albeit not knowing it was him.
    • Cartman's threats to kill Stan and Kyle for the video they taped are this as of the incident mentioned above.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Possibly the most for a single episode.
    • When Cartman believes he's part Native-American, he immediately starts adopting the culture and accusing all the other white people of oppressing his people. Randy did the exact same thing in "Holiday Special".
    • Liane gets really aroused when the Denver Broncos turn up. In "201", it turns out one of them really was Cartman's father.
    • Mr. Garrison is considered a possible candidate for Cartman's father. Just like how Mr. Garrison was a closet homosexual and a bigot who had Mr. Hat as an alter-ego, the equally bigoted Cartman would have Mitch Conner and developed Foe Romantic Subtext with Kyle.
    • Chef's attitude towards a two-man threesome with Liane seemingly relaxed over the years.
    • Dr. Mepehsto tests his own DNA despite not being seen with Liane. In 'Cartman Joins NAMBLA", Mephesto notes that both he and Cartman look like Marlon Brando, in other words they resemble each other enough to possibly be related.
    • When Cartman thinks Chef is his dad, he dyes his hair black and styles it into a very tall flat-top. Years later, his voice actor would portray a character with an incredibly similar hairstyle in Despicable Me 3.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Cartman deserves some sympathy when it's revealed that he's very insecure about not having a father and at one point feels completely heartbroken when he realizes that he might never know who his dad is. To top it all off despite not doing anything too bad in the episode, he's humiliated on TV thanks to Stan and Kyle.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Longing looks in the flashbacks are accompanied by a CĂ©line Dion style song that may as well be a knock-off of "My Heart Will Go On".
There you are, like a throbbing star...
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: At the end of the episode, Gerald is in the lineup of Cartman's potential fathers, one of the only candidates who was never put forth as a possibility during the story. It's never addressed how this leaves a slight possibility of Cartman being half-Jewish and Kyle being his half-brother. Had that idea been raised even a little bit later in the series, it would have been immediately apparent how horrifying both boys would find this notion; as it stands here at the end of Season 1 when they still considered each other friends despite slight friction, it's quietly passed over. As is the fact that, since Kyle and Cartman are the same age, Gerald likely cheated on Sheila that night, though as early as Season 2's "Chef Aid" it's established that there is some openness in their marriage.
