- Fridge Brilliance: The "Pure Evil Energy" the story refers to could actually be the Negative Energy of the Chaos Emeralds at work. Given Kintobor saw his machine (and thus his plan to rid the world of all evil) blowing up in his face, his despair at the situation he created combined with the machine, which was malfunctioning and meant to harness the power of the Emeralds, probably triggered his transformation into Robotnik and left him stuck in that evil form forever, not unlike the effects the Emeralds had on the vengeful Chaos or the werehog form that served as a dark antithesis of Sonic's super form.
- Fridge Horror: Depending of whether you're willing to buy this as the backstory for the games, classic or modern, in any way, it adds a rather tragic subtext to the games—Sonic never succeeded in changing Ivo back into his old friend Ovi Kintobor, and is constantly forced to fight the evil Ivo Robotnik for the rest of his life, with no hope of ever seeing the benevolent Ovi again, whose personality is probably trapped inside of the evil Eggman forever, forced to watch helplessly as Sonic fights endlessly to fix his greatest mistake.
- Genius Bonus: The "cobalt effect" mentioned by Kintobor, referring to how Sonic's fur and quill color was changed into Cobalt Blue, is a reference to the metal cobalt. Compounds of cobalt are used to provide a deep blue color to glass, ceramics, inks, paints and varnishes.
- Harsher in Hindsight: Ovi Kintobor's corruption into the evil Ivo Robotnik would be unintentionally paralleled a decade later in the games when Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, who started off as a benevolent, well meaning scientist, tragically became a misanthropic monster by the death of his granddaughter at the hands of government soldiers, and decided to use the Chaos Emeralds, which he initially planned to use for a benevolent purpose—powering the Eclipse Cannon in order to destroy the Black Arms alien race and save the world from them—as a weapon to annihilate humanity instead.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The story mentions the existence of a seventh Chaos Emerald that Kintobor has yet to find, even though the seventh Chaos Emerald wouldn't even become part of the games until Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
