- Americans Hate Tingle: In Japan, SD Gundam is just as beloved as its parent franchise, with many works, countless Gunpla, and even respectable representation and portrayal in other works. Overseas? Looked down upon and scorned for its cutesy and more silly approach, and for not being more of the same "gritty, war-torn tragedy" associated with Gundam. Most of the blame here can be pinpointed to SD Gundam Force, which got (And sometimes still gets) immense hate for being a more lighthearted romp when it first aired, and as such fans judge all of the other works as being more or less the same without giving them a chance.
- Broken Base: Even to this day, many Gundam fans (Mostly the Western ones) decry this sub-franchise for being part of the more serious and dramatic Gundam whole, claiming that it's "too kiddy" and "ruins everything Gundam stand for". Over the years, however, SD Gundam has gotten a more sizable fanbase, with many arguing that there are many works that have just as many dramatic and serious moments as the "real" Gundam works do.
- Complete Monster: See here.
- Moe: Most characters in general look like this, due to everyone having Super-Deformed proportions and the Gundams being given pupils to their eyes. Of course, just because they look cute doesn't mean they can't kick multiple kinds of ass.
- Obscure Popularity: SD Gundam originally started as a single sketch by a college student who was a fan of Gundam, before shortly expanding into Gachapon toys and the Manga Plamo-Kyoshiro featuring a model based off of the phenomena in Musha Gundam. Since then, it has exploded into a sub-franchise all on its own with multiple toylines, Manga, Video Games, and more, and as large of a presence as its parent franchise. It also has its many works dive into a wide spread of genres like Sengoku era pastiches, Medieval knight legends, American Action-Movie-esque tales with outer-space, barbarian stories akin to Highlander, time-cop odysseys, and even two works based off of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Tell any overseas Gundam fan about any of this, though, and they'll probably just scoff it off as a childish travesty to the Gundam franchise, if not respond with "Wait, I thought SD Gundam was just that one dumb watered-down kiddy show?".
- Vocal Minority: Now that most of the hate towards SD Gundam Force has subsided over the years, most Gundam fans are more lenient towards this sub-franchise as a whole, with the worst reaction they have to it being that they're not interested in it/it's simply not to their taste. That being said, there are still some Gundam fans out there who want to make it clear to you that SD Gundam is a gigantic embarrassment to the great war tragedy franchise and you should not waste your time with its childish drivel.
