YMMV / Robin Hood S 03 E 11 The Enemy Of My Enemy

  • Angst Dissonance: In this and the next episode, the death of Kate's brother Matthew at Guy's hands is brought up far more often than Marian's murder as a reason why Guy can't be trusted and shouldn't be allowed to join the gang. Putting aside the fact that Kate is the loathed Scrappy and Guy the popular Draco in Leather Pants, it's a bizarre choice to have the outlaws constantly harp on the death of Matthew — a Too Dumb to Live One-Shot Character that the audience had absolutely no emotional investment in — over that of Marian, the show's former female lead, whom the other outlaws don't bother to mention let alone advocate for even once.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Archer's introduction was met with a divisive reception among the fanbase, some finding him an interesting character played by a charismatic actor with plenty of room for growth, others feeling he was a smarmy composition of Robin and Guy's worst qualities who ends up backstabbing the pair of them after they've just saved his life.
  • Fridge Logic: Guy explicitly states that he's in league with Robin Hood to get revenge on Isabella for "betraying" him. And what did this "betrayal" involve, exactly? It was the crime of Isabella being in league... with Robin Hood.
    • Tuck defends Robin's decision to work with Gisborne as good for their cause, arguing the people of Nottingham would be impressed to see that Robin is willing to work with his enemies. Yes, the people of Nottingham would be delighted to know that their hero is working with the man that has brutally murdered dozens and dozens of them over the course of the past few years. Two episodes ago, they were practically tearing down the castle gates for the opportunity to see him get his head cut off.
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Kate reacts with screaming hatred towards Guy in this (and the next) episode, which is pretty justified considering he murdered her brother and hasn’t shown an ounce of remorse for it. But the writerly decision to pit Kate against the show’s Ensemble Dark Horse in the middle of his Redemption Quest was never going to work out in her favor, so the sight of her yelling “he’s pure evil!” and “that’s the Gisborne we all know and loathe!” while also attempting to physically attack him a couple of times was treated as far worse behavior by the fandom than Guy’s wholesale slaughter of innocent people for the last three series.
  • Retroactive Recognition: This was one of Clive Standen's earliest roles, and he's now much better known as Rollo in Vikings.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Despite Kate’s complaining and guilt-tripping, Robin is steadfast in his decision to work with Gisborne, telling her gently but firmly that she’s just going to have to put up with it. Guy then speaks for the nation when he tells her: "You don't have to like me. I don't like you."
