  • Anvilicious: His Atlas Shrugged review is mostly him deconstructing the philosophy of Objectivism.
  • Awesome Music: His theme, "The Ends" by Basement Jaxx.
  • Broken Base:
    • The number of dislikes on his La La Land video is much higher than usual, no doubt thanks to his intense hatred of that film.
    • While he has always been very open about his left-wing beliefs, Leon's videos became much more overtly political after leaving Channel Awesome, with him harshly criticizing numerous generally well-received movies for supposedly promoting right-wing conservative or capitalist values. This has led to some heated debates among fans in the comment sections of his newer videos, with some feeling that he has gotten too radical and bitter in his media analysis while others believe that he's just telling the hard truths of our corporate-controlled media and culture.
    • In his Ready Player One essay, he links the movie to the Gamergate Controversy of 2014–2015 due to his feeling that the movie promotes toxic masculinity, gate-keeping, and elitism. Unsurprisingly, this is one of his most controversial videos.
  • Epileptic Trees: A good portion of videos discuss these. Examples include Requiem for a Dream being a sequel to Labyrinth, Willy Wonka being a child murderer, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek: The Motion Picture being about reproduction, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare being a dream that Nancy was sent into in the third movie.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the October 2019 video "You Can't Rehabilitate George W. Bush", Leon discusses the media's attempts at whitewashing George W. Bush's administration in light of then-president Donald Trump's administration, arguing that Bush was worse than Trump, saying "Donald Trump is easily one of the worst presidents of all time, but he doesn't have as much blood on his hands as Bush... so far.". In 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic took hold of the United States, and Trump's administration handled it so poorly that over 400,000 Americans died by the time his tenure ended before he lost the 2020 presidential election.
  • It's Not Supposed to Win Oscars: The video "Do the Oscars Matter?" unintentionally gives an argument in this trope's favor because Leon explains that any film nominated has had a vigorous campaign behind them, led by the film studios, and often the movie's cast and crew. He concludes the review by mentioning several Oscar-winning films that sank into obscurity that came out the same year as other, more culturally iconic films (e.g. Annie Hall winning an Oscar over A New Hope.)
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Deliberately invoked by Leon, because his video essays are, in a large part, about the politics that underlie and inform films, and what they imply.
Leon: Oh yeah. It's one of those videos.
