YMMV / Red Flood

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Quite a few people who were not previously aware of some of the historical personae that Red Flood props up into power are surprised that quite a few of the paths, including the less sane ones, are accurately representing the views of these people in real life.
    • While it might seem surprising to see the famous liberal and preacher of free market Friedrich Hayek being the minister for the moderate democratic socialist Popper, Hayek in fact was a socialist in his youth, and much of his later views stemmed from the disillusionment with that ideology.
    • Despite how insane everything in his path looks, Wettenhovi-Aspa's ideology is completely unchanged from his real life counterpart's actual beliefs.
    • Despite Stalin being classified as Accelerationist and is a Vpredist, this was actually based on Stalin’s beliefs prior to his rise to power.
  • Awesome Music: The former front-end theme, Gibel Steregushchego, or The Wreck of the Guardian in English, is a haunting lament about the wreck of the eponymous Russian ship in the Russo-Japanese War. Before its ultimate replacement, it perfectly captured the feeling of loss for not only the millions more killed in the First World War and the hope for a rational, sane world, but also the feeling of impending doom for the coming madness of the next war.
Have mercy upon us, Almighty God.
  • Complete Monster: The Avatar, born Maximiani Julia Portas (and better known in OTL as Savitri Devi, the name she took after converting to Hinduism), proves herself to be a psychopathic megalomaniac even without the influence of Nazism. Taking advantage of the chaos that erupts if Winston Churchill fails to maintain control of the United Provinces, the Avatar and her followers would attempt to seize control for themselves. If successful, they will place the United Provinces under the rule of a Kali-worshipping death cult legalizing Human Sacrifice and cannibalism, while conscripting anyone they could find, even children, to fight for them under the threat of the massacre of their families. Upon unifying India, the Avatar will declare war on the rest of the world, seeking to destroy the world utterly and remake it in her own twisted image.
  • Good Bad Bugs: In older versions, the event where Georges Bataille defects from Avant-Garde France to form his own Accelerationist state in Mauritania can fire even before France has advanced far enough in its path and chose to not follow his Acephale faction. If this happens, you can still choose the Acephale faction, with awkward results: not only will Bataille be openly ruling two independent countries (one of them being a Renegade Splinter Faction of the other one), but he can even end up at war against himself! This event and the country itself were cut during the massive rework of France.
  • Memetic Mutation: Thanks to the insanity of Red Flood's lore and premise, the mod has developed quite a few. Naturally, each has crept into separate memes involving other HoI IV mods.

  • Tear Jerker:
    • Say what you will about Gabriele d'Annunzio and Fiume as a whole, but the country truly mourns him when he dies, with the description of the first National Focus after his death detailing how there would be "No poem today" and a completely blank description for the next National Focus.
