YMMV / Reapers Among Fairies

Go To

  • Designated Villain: Princess Hisui is constantly treated by the narrative and the Fairy Tail cast as equally responsible for the death of Madeline and the destruction caused by Future Rogue's plans as the man himself is. Hisui is at worst an Unwitting Pawn who had no means of finding out how badly she was being mislead about the Eclipse Gate, and while it seems harsh to order her knights to attack the protagonists, she would well be within her right to do this since she had no reasons to trust the Kurosakis over Future Rogue at the time. Even Madeline's death whom was blamed on Hisui has nothing to do with her; Fairy Tail time travel can only allow time travelers to continue existing if their timeline remains intact, and changing the past enough to prevent their futures will remove them from existence. Madeline was doomed once the Eclipse Gate was destroyed and her Bad Future prevented, no lethal injury required. The hubbub made about Hisui's culpability in all of this is only supported by authorial fiat rather than an accurate representation of the actions he wrote Hisui taking.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Yukino's adoption by Ichigo and Orihime. In canon poor Yukino was basically left homeless after her guildmaster exiled her from Sabertooth, and only the happenstance of Sting taking over the guild changed that for her. Here, Ichigo and Orihime immediately file for legal guardianship of Yukino once they hear about her exile and take the young woman into their home as their daughter and Kazui's older brother. Not only does Yukino no longer have to wait until the end of the Fairy Tail plotline to have any family in her life, but she's even being trained as Earth Land's first Quincy by Yuzu!
    • Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess ended with Éclair and Momon dying alongside the Phoenix, and Éclair's personal life was such a tragedy due to her immortality that even Lucy was left questioning if magic was a good thing or not. Due to the presence of Orihime, the Phoenix's link to Éclair and Momon is purged before the Phoenix is killed, sparring both of then their deaths and allowing Éclair to finally live a happy normal life without the distrust of magic poisoning her heart.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: A criticism of the otherwise liked Reapers Among Fairies is how closely the story follows The Stations of the Canon. Despite the addition of Ichigo's family and their incredible powers, ModernRogue11 isn't willing to change enough of the Grand Magic Games and their major plot points to help the story deviate from more or less the same places canon Fairy Tail went. The most that happens are changes that allow Ichigo or his sisters to fight the same people that were already defeated by members of Fairy Tail, but the plots they participate in aren't actually different from the same canon events due to their presence. Nowhere is this more apparent that the "change" of the good time traveler from Future Lucy to an OC daughter of Natsu and Lisanna. Said OC is a spiritually aware character who should be able to change the course of Future Lucy's story by design, but aside from being an add-on to the Future Rogue fight she ultimately just does the same things Future Lucy did.
  • Tear Jerker: The death of Madeline Dragneel. The child's final moments in the story feature damn near every character present to cry and beg for her to survive Future Rogue's fatal injury, but there's simply no saving her with the Eclipse Gate's destruction returning all time-displaced beings to their rightful place. Madeline's final farewells and wishes are rather bittersweet to all, but especially to her would-be parents Natsu and Lisanna, who for the next chapter afterwards are extremely depressed.
