YMMV / Realm Royale

Go To

  • Fandom Rivalry:
    • With Fortnite as they are Battle Royale games with cartoony art style and crafting systems.
    • Another with Apex Legends since that game is also a class-based Battle Royale game.
  • More Popular Spin-Off: Unfortunately subverted in the long run. Soon after Realm Royale hit Steam, major streamers started playing the game with their positive reception became free advertising for the game. The game became so popular that player numbers to skyrocket with Realm Royale sitting higher than parent game Paladins on Steam's top 25 most played games. Unfortunately, this wouldn't last, as the Uncertain Audience example details, the numbers started to slowly decrease from 100,000 players upon release, to ~6500 players...and then in a year anywhere between 100 to 1300 players. You can view the data here if you're curious.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The decision to remove classes in one of the updates during early access was not a popular one, since the game was sold as a class-based hero-shooter-esque Battle Royale game. Interest and player count dropped dramatically, and even the return of the class system in EA11 couldn't repair the damage.
  • Uncertain Audience: While the game had a sizable initial player base thanks to its novel class-based Battle Royale premise and being a spin-off of Paladins, the game failed to maintain a satisfied fanbase due to controversial gameplay changes. During early access, major updates removed signature mechanics like classes and, to a lesser extent, crafting. These changes lead to a rapid decline in player count and, by the time classes and crafting were brought back, the damage was done. Players left to other games...and then came Apex Legends, which was also a free-to-play class-based Battle Royale game whose success further killed this game. Some speculated that had the devs not gotten rid of the class system, Realm Royale may have even been considered a competitor towards Apex Legends, much like how Paladins is a competitor to Overwatch, but alas it was left with a small userbase with a cult following.
