YMMV / Psychedelica Of The Black Butterfly

Go To

  • Adorkable: Monshiro. Despite his mask, he's really just a shy, sweet boy who desperately wants friends, isn't good with words, and is severely touch-starved. In nearly any scene he's in, he comes off as utterly adorable.
  • Awesome Music
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: It’s very likely that the player will have figured out the characters are having Adventures in Comaland before they do, though arguably the real plot twists are the ones that come after.
  • Moe: Even with his face hidden, Monshiro's shy hopefulness at the prospect of having friends, social awkwardness, deep-seated loneliness, and status as The Woobie commonly instills this reaction in players. Then you see that under the mask he’s a Bishōnen with big eyes and a shy smile and the Moe just gets ramped up even more.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Yamato’s transformation into a monster, simply because it’s so unexpected that an otome game would seemingly kill off one of the love interests relatively early.
    • Monshiro’s Dramatic Unmask, which reveals that he is the real Kazuya and Hikage is the imposter. Bonus points for the Code Geass Shout-Out.
    • Beniyuri starting to transform into a monster near the end of the Common Route. The first time the player sees it, they will question whether they’ve gotten a Bad End, but it actually leads to either the "Best" ending, Takuya's True Ending, or Aki's True Ending.
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Monshiro gets along well with three out of five of the main cast, but was otherwise considered weird by the rest of his peers as a kid. In real life, he snagged first place on the popularity poll and is adored as a Love Interest.
  • The Woobie: Monshiro aka Kazuya. In real life, he was a socially awkward boy who didn't have many friends, but nurtured a crush on Ai. While attending summer camp, a series of tragic events led to him falling comatose while trying to recover Ai's Tragic Keepsake. He spent the next ten years wandering alone in Psychedelica, fighting off monsters and drowning in loneliness. He gradually lost his memories, until eventually all he could remember was that he had to return the ribbon to "her". He regains them when Ai, Takuya, and Aki do arrive and desperately seeks their friendship, but is forced to the fringes of the group because Hikage is impersonating him.
