• Realism-Induced Horror: One of the reasons why Pokemon Black is an effective creepypasta is because it's very mundane. It's just the narrator describing a bootleg game that is unsettling but otherwise completely normal. It's not a game that is haunted, cursed, breaks the fourth wall, kills its player, or anything fantastic like other cliche video game creepypastas that try too hard to be scary; it's just a "regular" bootleg game that sounds like a potentially realistic ROM hack someone could actually make. Because of that, it's easy for the reader to lift their willing suspension of disbelief and believe the notion that this creepy game could be real. The fact that a real ROM hack based on the story has been made only amplifies this effect.
