  • Broken Base:
    • The anime. Some were happy that the Manga is getting an adaptation and is satisfied with its pacing. Others think that it was an awkwardly animated mess reminiscent of the third season of The Seven Deadly Sins, dials the fanservice up to eleven, and its slow pacing. Being animated by the same studio as Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She's a Cutie?'s animated adaptation doesn't help.
    • Its handling of fanservice. Some think it's okay at least, as it was situated between Breather Episodes in the Manga. But when the Anime Adaptation adds more fanservice, manga fans have complained it and it reeks of Mood Whiplash.
    • The plot twists: Some think it keeps the story engaging. Others think it's too much it's borderline Shyamalanic.
  • Growing the Beard: At the first Wham Episode which involves a Helicopter appearing in Althea, people became interested in the manga.
  • Magnificent Bastard: The original Schmelman Bach is the secret founder of Althia and its dystopian Count system, which he created to measure military recruits before the apocalyptic Abandoned War. Introducing himself as an apparent sadist, Schmelman shows himself to be a kind leader focused on helping every student, eventually adopting Rihito as his son after a heartfelt conversation. Deciding to turn Rihito into a Red Baron despite knowing the dangers, Schmelman uses Rihito's empathy to convince him to kill entire armies while turning other students from the Special Military School #13 into Red Barons to do missions that Rihito refuses. Winning the Abandoned War, Schmelman uses the reunited alien Ballots to create a floating new country and steal the resources of Earth to create a False Utopia where the Althians live in prosperity at the risk of being exiled to "the Abyss"—where the unchosen humans live in perpetual famine—including Schemelman's students who were exiled because their potential danger. 300 years later, Schmelman creates crops able to survive in the Abyss and begs Rihito and his students to kill him to reconcile Althia and the Abyss, expressing disgust towards his past mindset and considering himself "The enemy of humanity".
