YMMV / Pinkie Pie and the Cupcake Calamity

Go To

  • Broken Aesop: The "Aesop" is meant to be "everyone has something good to contribute", but the story always portrays Rarity's ideas as successful and each of Pinkie's ideas as failures. Even at the end, when half the bakery is as Rarity wants it and the other half is as Pinkie wants it, Rarity's side is more popular while Pinkie's delicious cupcakes are the only thing she gets right. In fact, most of the story seems to be setting up a message along the lines of "Don't follow trends if you don't know what people like" or "New ideas aren't always better".
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The book is surprisingly depressing for an official My Little Pony book, due to it centering on Pinkie Pie going through a Trauma Conga Line, and the mood is rather tense due to Pinkie's personal issues.
