YMMV / Perry Saturn

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Saturn's gimmick with "Moppy" was originally meant to be punishment for him injuring an extra. What management didn't count on, however, was how popular and over Saturn would become with his romance to an inanimate object.
  • Harsher in Hindsight/Fridge Horror: Saturn and Kronus originally considered calling their team the Harvesters of Sorrow, but Lawler told them that people wouldn't get the mythological reference. "Harvester of Sorrow" is the name of a Metallica song sung from the perspective of a man who is losing his mind and, presumably, snaps and murders his family. Saturn later held the WCW World Tag Team Titles with Chris Benoit...
  • Mis-blamed:
    • The infamous Moppy angle has been attributed to being a punishment for Perry Saturn shooting on enhancement talent Mike Bell during a squash match, where Saturn stiffed him after Bell accidentally dropped Saturn on his head. Saturn himself, however, has denied this, claiming that the Moppy angle had been pitched to him before that match ever happened.
    • Same with the dress angle in WCW; It'd been rumored that was punishment for him attempting to get in contact with the WWE, but he said it was his idea because he felt his look was getting stale at the time.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The Revolution's theme was one of Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People".
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: The whole "become brain-damaged and do embarrassing things before falling in love with a mop" gimmick was pushed onto Saturn as a form of behind-the-scenes punishment, and likely would have destroyed anyone else's wrestling career. However, Saturn gave it his all, and the sheer ridiculousness of his character ended up winning over so much of audiences that he turned face, even after the gimmick was dropped (by way of Moppy being tossed into a woodchipper by Raven, which was equal parts genuinely sad and genuinely hilarious).
