YMMV / Perfect Vermin

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is the reporter's treatment of you how he normally treats other people, or is he just terrified of dying before he can be remembered, and freaking out about it?
  • Anvilicious: Smoking Is Not Cool and can cause you to miss out on living a full life because you will not have time left.
  • Catharsis Factor: Just smashing various inanimate (or monsters trying to pass off as inanimate) objects with a hammer as the primary game objective is very fun and immensely satisfying.
  • Jerkass Woobie: The news reporter will berate you for never being fast enough in your quest to exterminate the infestation of vermin, but it becomes hard to not feel sympathy for him when you see him barely holding himself together, and reeling or sobbing in pain at one point. He later apologizes for his earlier behavior and wishes he had more time to live and just wants something to be remembered by, but it's implied he never gets the chance.
  • Signature Scene: The player smashing open a vermin disguised as a fridge to reveal its fleshy insides.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • During one of the Smash Cuts to the news reporter, he's seen holding his head and possibly sobbing and just begs you to move to the next floor. Its sudden and unexpected nature can hit very hard.
    • The ending. The newscaster is dying of lung cancer as a result of his frequent smoking, and he tells you that the timer was always meant for him and he wishes he had more time. His doctor tells him that he doesn't have long to live and the disease is spreading. When the reporter says that he should be out there working on his masterpiece article and how he will be remembered by it, his doctor insists on focusing on his affairs and plans. The game ends with one last harrowing line:
No one will care about my death if I don't prove to them that I lived.
  • That One Level: The split screen floor is a difficult level for those doing a speedrun or trying to get the "only smash vermin" achievement, as you are controlling the character in two different levels at once and not finding the last vermin you need or one missed swing can easily cost either achievement.
