YMMV / Patayin Mo Sa Sindak Si Barbara

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: It's difficult to tell if Ruth is Properly Paranoid when Fritz refused to swear before the cross that he is not unfaithful. It makes one wonder if Fritz really had been seeing Barbara behind her back.
  • Narm:
    • Barbara's attempt to calm down a recently possessed Karen by reciting the Apostle's creed. What's otherwise awesome is kinda ruined because of the actress's campy delivery.
    • The wah-wah guitar every time Ruth's ghost appears can be this too. It's the 70s, sure, but the sound is more fitting to that of a porno than a horror flick like this.
  • Padding: The climax between Barbara and Ruth can be a frustrating watch as Ruth just keeps beating her while Barbara can't get a hold of that damn cross. And it happens more. Than. ONCE!
  • She Really Can Act: Rosanna Ortiz was often pigeonholed as a "bold star" (from the term "bold films" referring to sexual exploitation films) at the time as she acted in a lot of them even after the film's release, but surprised audiences with her terrifyingly excellent performance as Ruth, the vengeful spirit out for Barbara's blood. She even won Asia's Best Supporting Actress for it.
  • Special Effect Failure: The obviously animated lightning in the sky, which shows up twice.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome:
    • A small but effective one when the doll began to walk all by itself without any assistance.
    • Karen's reflections being manipulated into being her mother's reflection is also an impressive touch. It only not shows up in mirrors, but in any reflective surface, period.
