YMMV / Pat and Mat

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Main theme accompanying our heroes trying to fix things.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show is extremely popular in the Netherlands (where it's called Buurman en Buurman, and the cartoons are given dialogue provided by actors Kees Prins and Siem van Leeuwen), so much so that it not only has a plethora of toys and other merch, but snack foods based on it.
    • Pat & Mat also enjoys a good bit of adoration in South Korea, where it saw both a broadcast and home release on VHS and DVD. What's interesting is that, like the Dutch version of the show, South Korea received dubs as well, not only in Korean but also English, the latter for educational purposes (alongside a live-action educational side-series featuring two actors in Pat and Mat costumes). They even got a game before the rest of the world did.
    • It's also well known in Poland, where it's often seen as one of symbols of their southern neighbors. It is also a source of many gag dubs, which consists from oryginal episode with added voice (most of times from speech synthesizer) full of Vulgar Humor.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: Pat & Mat has received only two games to its name, and neither of them are all that great.
    • The first is a rather formulaic platformer by Siria Entertainment Co., Ltd. with the only relation to the show being the presence of the title characters (who are actually rendered with some pleasant spritework). The game also seems to be a mere reskin of another title developed by the same company roughly called "Goblin Bat" (도깨비 방망이). The only thing it has going for it other than the decent character sprites is its sheer obscurity.
    • The second is a minigame collection released in 2009, developed by Centauri Production and published by Bohemia Interactive (famed for their ARMA and Operation Flashpoint series). Despite featuring a nice graphical style and a setting based around the country home of the pair in the 2009-2015 episodes, the content of the game itself is rather middling. The mini-games are, to wit, incredibly shallow. The point-and-click portion is way too short and easy, and the puzzle and fashion show minigames are almost insultingly childish. Really, the only one to have any real replayability is mini golf due to having some semblance of depth (with power-ups and various types of track to contend with) as well as a nice variety of stages to challenge, and a barebones but serviceable level editor. Of course, it's likely the game was intended for a younger crowd given the minigame choices and target audience of the show (which is predominantly kids).
      • On a more humorous note, the game seems to have gained something of an ironic following on Steam (where it was delisted in July of 2020). The reviews mostly contain bizarre plot descriptions that have nothing to do with the actual game, or excessive praise, usually comparing it to Dark Souls. The tags of the gamenote  seem to only further solidify its status as a minor meme.
