- Epic Riff:
- The stomp-stomp-clap percussion section for "We Will Rock You" is so well-known that it frequently eclipses recognition of Queen themselves in many circles. There's a reason this song is still played at sport stadiums all across the world.
- Slash declared the Epic Riff of "Fight From The Inside" one of his favourite riffs of all time.
- Genius Bonus: In an interview with NPR Brian May discussed the iconic "stomp stomp clap" intro for "We Will Rock You." The band recorded a few people stomping/clapping, then Brian overdubbed multiple times, with time delays of prime numbers so that the stomping would not harmonize. The results, a sound that sounds like a stadium stomping the intro, despite only being a few people. Ladies and Gentlemen, math rocks.
- Mandela Effect: The very last lyric of "We Are The Champions" is sometimes remembered as "We are the champions / of the world" — Every other chorus ends that way, but the final time it stops at just "we are the champions". Freddie Mercury would sing the full phrase when performing the song live.
- Nightmare Fuel: Lets face it, the idea behind the album cover is pretty freaky. Theres a reason it terrified Stewie.
- Signature Song: The duumvirate of "We Will Rock You"/"We Are the Champions" stands as the most famous songs from the album and two of Queen's best-known songs overall, thanks to their easy-to-learn nature (especially "We Will Rock You") and their status as sports staples.
- Tough Act to Follow: News of the World generated two of the band's most famous songs and is widely considered one of their best albums, setting a high bar for the follow-up. Indeed, Jazz would be deemed a critical and commercial disappointment compared to this album, leading the band to seek a completely different direction from 1979 on. They did, and began their era of short-hair (except for Brian), moustache (for Freddie), synthesizers and releasing more and more singles and playing larger venues.
