  • Bad Export for You: By government order, the South Korean release removed "Get Down, Make Love" due to its sexual title and content.

    • Nine Inch Nails recorded a Cover Version of "Get Down, Make Love" as a B-side to "Sin". The performance is also featured as a bonus track on the 2010 reissue of Pretty Hate Machine.
    • The Family Guy episode "Killer Queen", named after the Queen song (although it doesn't appear on this album), has one of its plots be about Stewie having to conquer his fear of the album's cover.
    • The Drake & Josh episode "The Storm" ends with Helen leading the cast in an impromptu performance of "We Will Rock You" to keep everyone entertained while they're stranded in the title characters' house during a hurricane.
  • Tribute to Fido: "All Dead, All Dead" was inspired partly by the death of Brian May's boyhood pet cat.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In an interview with Rolling Stone, John Lydon claimed that Queen invited him to sing backing vocals on one song thanks to the fact that they were recording News of the World at the same time and in the same studio as the Sex Pistols (who were putting together Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols).
    • The 2017 boxset comes with different lead vocals for every single song on the album. That includes 'All Dead, All Dead' sung by Freddie Mercury instead of Brian May. Of course, YMMV as to whether those discarded lead vocals (and, in some cases, instrumental arrangements) were actually better than the ones they actually released back in 1977.
  • Writer Revolt: According to Rick Rubin, when he was asked to put together a remix of "We Will Rock You" for the 1991 Hollywood Records reissue, he was hesitant because he didn't like the idea of remixing what he felt was "a perfect record." Consequently, he decided to make it as ridiculous as possible to convey the message that classic songs shouldn't be remixed to begin with.
