YMMV / New Jack

Go To

  • Awesome Ego: He was pretty open in his lack of regard for Mustafa, claiming New Jack was the Gangstas and that he "took off" once Mustafa was out of his hair. Jack wasn't exactly the most phenomenal worker himself, as his colleagues will tell you.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Either you love watching his wild brawls or you think he was a worthless thug who has no place in wrestling. There really is no clear middle ground with New Jack.
    • Jim Cornette has said "New Jack is a goddamn idiot and a troublemaker" and that’s why no one will hire him. Cornette and Jack would make up later, though.
    • Tod Gordon called him a natural entertainer who always felt he had to prove himself.
"If he thinks he’s right, no one can make him think otherwise."
    • The Rock N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) have said that the Gangstas would have drawn a lot more money in SMW if Jack hadn't been so green, as he would have been better able to take the abuse from the fans.
  • Character Perception Evolution: Although New Jack was very popular in the 90s and early 2000s, the following years saw his popularity tank due to his bad attitude, reputation for shooting on performers in the ring and the declining popularity of hardcore wrestling as a whole. Unlike most hardcore wrestlers, who were either capable of working traditional matches or were at least well-versed in Wrestling Psychology to offset the extreme violence, New Jack was, for the most part, only good at swinging weapons and diving off of things. His lack of actual wrestling ability combined with his controversial actions failed to endear him to modern Smart Marks and since New Jack never worked for WWE or any other major promotions after ECW foldednote , very few casual wrestling fans have even heard of him. Any time New Jack is mentioned nowadays (if it's in a bad light Due to the Dead), it's usually only to criticize his violent behavior and unprofessionalism.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: New Jack giving a shout-out during a SMW promo to his "homeboy O.J. Simpson" with all the typical New Jack bravado:
Keep up the good work, baby! Two less we got to worry about, you understand?! Keep up the good work!
  • Memetic Psychopath: The IWC considered him to be the one wrestler most likely to actually murder someone. It's not without reason. If the stories are true, he actually had killed before.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The gunshot and scream that start "Natural Born Killaz."
  • Never Live It Down: Take a wild goddamn guess.
    • Also, his "match" with Gypsy Joe in which he completely lost it and violently assaulted the 69 year old Joe after the latter no sold his offence and head butted him on the nose.
    • And let’s not forget his two matches with Vic Grimes. The first was the infamous "Danbury Fall", where he dragged Grimes off a scaffold, and the second was another scaffold match where he intended to kill Grimes.
