• Tainted by the Preview: After reading the initial synopsis, some fans thought this would be a repeat of Issue 9 of the My Little Pony: Friends Forever series likewise dealt with the Flim-Flam Brothers having a falling out. And an Apple member (in that case, Granny Smith) helping to patch them up. But it's resolved fairly quickly, to which the rest of the episode becomes an Enemy Mine situation.
• Viewer Gender Confusion: The Prairie Dog trainer ponies have the square muzzles associated with stallions, but they also have eyelashes. The gender-ambiguous voices don't help. They're both referred to as "him" at one point, but since they're talking over each other and say it simultaneously, it's easy to miss that they're both stallions. It's a bit more obvious to anyone who can tell that they're based on Siegfried and Roy.
• What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?:
  • Some people have compared the toppling of Gladmane's statue to another famous statue-toppling.
  • Some viewers have drawn comparisons between Gladmane and both major party candidates in the 2016 US Presidential election.
