On the other hand, information from books isn't as easily accessible, but they contain the clearest explanations as to Michaela's relationship, and Wooden Girl~Thousand Year Wiegenlied~ having her say she loves Clarith (but doesn't specify whether it's platonic or not). The result is a lot of confusion and attempts to sort out what's canon or not. At first Gumillia vows again and again to protect Michaela, and even before they become human, she tracks down Michaela's location when she goes missing for two weeks; similarly, in both the novel and the song, Michaela emphasizes how much she wants to protect Clarith, and occasionally it's Clarith who wants to protect her. When Michaela tells her that she will remain as a human in order to be with someone important to her, Gumillia responds that she has also just decided there's someone important she needs to protect and will thus remain human for, with the heavy implication that it's Michaela ("if Michaela wants to stay as a human, then I also don’t want to revert back into a spirit"). Later, Gumillia is compared to Clarith when she challenges her on who will get to take care of tree sprout Michaela; Clarith realizes that "Michaela is an important person for her as well", and various characters have referred to their romantic interests as important people.

* NarmCharm: In the Clockworker reprise of ''Re-collective Musicbox'', it's sung by Hiyama Kiyoteru with varying and oddly tuned pitches that make it sound almost whiny and comical when not considering the lyrics. Considering that the song is about how the two women in the world he loved most are dead, the strange pitches can come across as him singing as he's holding back tears, varying between complete and utter depression for low parts and wailing for the chorus.

** Due to the fair amount of difficulty in fans outside Japan finding information outside of the songs and the possibility of Youtube reuploaders not sourcing videos correctly, many fanmade songs and [=PVs=] for Story of Evil are taken as fact. Interestingly, many plot points from those songs actually do happen in canon, though in different ways (like Daughter of Green introducing a monarch who sacrificed their child's happiness in order to start a war, and Daughter of Vengeance having Germaine wanting to avenge an unjustly-executed loved one). There are still some major differences, leading to a very confused audience when new songs like Thousand-Year Wiegenlied and Handbeat Clocktower contradict what the fansongs claimed.
