  • Anvilicious: Historically, Geoff hasn't painted Digital Piracy Is Evil with a subtle brush to say the least. That said, he considers his statements on the subject to be an Old Shame of his and no longer stands by them.
  • Broken Base:
    • His "Selling out" Running Gag is either funny Self-Deprecation or just a weak "Just Joking" Justification.
    • Bringing up JonTron in his video on separating the art from the artist; some find it reasonable that one could enjoy JonTron's work in spite of his controversial political views, other people found it stupid that he was implying JonTron was a bad person just for having unpopular opinions based on false information. Not helping was that compared to the people he included, JonTron was way too out of place note , which lead to some detractors arguing that it was unfair to compare his comments to rape and Nazism, and ignoring how unlike most people Geoff used as an example, Jon admitted to his mistake and steered away from politics after that, whereas many other people Geoff discussed never showed any regret. Geoff later posted a comment acknowledging that he knew JonTron had apologized, and said he had chosen JonTron as an example of someone whose views were separate from (but amplified by) his content, especially since JonTron had been a great influence for him.
    • The "There's NO GOOD REASON to Pirate Legally Available Anime" video: some fans agreed with his position that piracy is always bad and firmly believe that it is better to watch Anime legally since it helps out the industry. In addition, they point out a lot of pirates just don't want to support the medium and tend to pocket the money for themselves, which greatly hurts the industry. Others disagree, arguing that most legal streaming services don't provide enough quality service to justify support, as some titles are not legally available in all regions of the world, if at all, or some people just have trouble affording themselves to pay for the services. It's worth noting that Geoff isn't blind to the fact that there are shows often screwed over by the release format or availability (he later backtracked on his position and admitted that people with no legal way to watch anime had good reason to), his issue is more with people who refuse to pay for streaming services because they just refuse to pay, not those who cannot afford it. What didn't help was how Geoff refused to acknowledge the entire source for the video- Uniquenameosaurus' video defending the consumer's right to pirate- going as far as to use the same tags on Youtube to drown Unique's video out. Geoff eventually admitted to the handling of this subject being an Old Shame, had softened a bit on the subject and apologized to those he was hostile towards, especially after the purging of cartoons at the hands of Warner Bros. Discovery where he brings up where piracy is encouraged and even reverses his claims by saying it's people's moral obligation to cancel their subscription to HBO Max.
    • His "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5 Primer - Anime Cheat Sheet" video: many expressed distaste for the video, viewing it as encouraging the idea to skip Parts in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, something that upsets fans, but others view it as a humorous summary of the other Parts, and believe that the former group is overreacting, along with arguing how, due to the way the series is structured, it's easy to understand and enjoy a Part in the series even without seeing the previous ones.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
  • He Panned It, Now He Sucks!:
    • He drew the ire of the Super Smash Bros. community for his statements about the competitive rules for Smash, specifically that banning random items and certain stages makes the game less engaging and throws off the intended balance since certain characters were designed around such content and are therefore rendered unplayable under competitive rules.
    • The video discussing Goblin Slayer and its infamous opening has led to some very divisive responses on the YouTube comments section. While many do see addressing the issue as necessary due to it being graphic (especially for sexual assault victims having panic attacks) others tend to be very defensive and vitriolic to the point of accusing the video of pandering to detractors of the show and siding with sensitive censors, some going as far as unsubscribing for it. Part of this is because of how Geoff compares it to Hentai in how graphic it is, even saying it's designed to still be fanservicey, which many found a weird and poor argument since the show clearly shows otherwise. However, since the show is infamous in the anime community for its divisive reception, this was expected.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • His review of Cowboy Bebop (2021) has him constantly reference the show's second season that "will totally happen because it's Netflix". Two weeks after he posted the video, Netflix officially cancelled Cowboy Bebop, one of the fastest cancellations they've ever pulled.
    • Midway through "Harry Potter Anime Knockoffs," Geoff admits that he mostly made the video as an excuse for ragging on Maburaho, since "nobody is going to click on a video about some shitty harem anime from the early Oughts that they've never seen." Five years later, he basically made that exact video (this time for the explicit purpose of roasting Maburaho).
    • His praise of the first episode of Rent-A-Girlfriend back in 2020 becomes especially funny when you find out that two years afterwards, he'd grow to hate the show, even making a video on it in his "Roast of" series. Towards the end of its roasting, he even admits that while he enjoyed the series when he first saw it, none of it held up upon rewatch.
    • In his Fall 2017 video, Black Clover - What the HFIL Went Wrong? , where Geoff spent most of the a lambasting the first few episodes of Black Clover, near the end of the video, he suggested the then concurrently airing UQ Holder! as an alternative. However, as time went by, Black Clover would end up doing pretty well for itself, having a 100+ episode run and a movie, UQ Holder on the other hand, merely lasted one season as a Compressed Adaptation. It should be noted though that he recanted his negativity towards Black Clover in his Times Geoff Was Wrong video.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: In reference to a one-off joke about one of the monsters looking like it's from BIONICLE, the thumbnail on the video on Alicization includes Mata Nui. Much to Geoff's amusement, the majority of the video's viewership appears to be BIONICLE fans.
Geoff: bionicle fans are clearly quite starved for content if the number of people saying "I'm only here for Mata nui" are any indication
