  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: "Seamus", a blues song overlaid with the sound of a dog constantly barking. It's frequently considered to be the band's worst song.
  • Broken Base: How well Side One stands up as a whole. Side Two is universally considered amazing thanks to the inclusion of "Echoes", but the song selection on Side One is considerably mixed. Some fans believe that songs such as "One of These Days" and "San Tropez" raise the album's quality exponentially, whereas other fans believe that the album is overall dragged down by songs as forgettable as "Fearless" and as annoying as "Seamus".
  • Epic Riff: The bassline to "One of These Days".
  • Growing the Beard: The album is generally agreed to be where the band finally found their legs after Syd Barrett's departure, setting the stage for their commercial breakthrough with their next regular album. Many fans will cite this album as the start of the Floyd's "classic era."
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • A good number of people have admitted to checking out "One of These Days" just to find the part that quotes the Doctor Who theme.
    • In a similar vein to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on Wish You Were Here (1975), fans of Diamond is Unbreakable may be interested in this album just to check out "Echoes".
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Seamus (That's The Dog)" seems to be a case of this.
    • The whale sounds in "Echoes".
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The guitar burst at 18:13 of "Echoes", following a long build-up, feels like an orgasm.
    • Also, that "ping" at the beginning.
  • Narm Charm: "Seamus" is a wonderfully silly throwaway track.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Many fans cite "Seamus". It's a goofy joke track punctuated by the incongruous sound of a dog howling, which would normally get it dismissed by listeners, but much of the appeal lies in those very same traits.
