YMMV / Life (2002)

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: The drama is more well-known than the manga, at least in the US.
  • Catharsis Factor: Seeing Manami get pursued all over school and cornered when she climbs on top of the shoeshelves, where the whole student body starts demanding that she apologize in front of everyone for everything that she has done. After all the stuff she's pulled, she gets a certain amount of comeuppance, and it's beautiful to see.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Ayumu shows signs of mental illness, such as cutting herself and having self-esteem problems, but is never diagnosed with anything.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Most fan-works are of Ayumu/Miki, despite Ayumu having a male love interest.
  • It Was His Sled: The drama doesn't even attempt to hide that Manami is an Alpha Bitch. She is suspicious from the start.
  • Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading: Ayumu and Miki are supposed to be platonic friends, but are written more like a couple than even Ayumu and her canon crush.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: It may be a Shoujo manga, however, it's considerably more mature in nature than most shoujo. From the graphic nudity, sexual scenes, and gore... it's no wonder Tokyopop changed it from being for "Older Teens" to "Mature". One scene in volume 6 even involved showing two characters somewhat graphically having sex. It can easily be mistaken for a Josei manga.
