There Must Be Happy Endings is a Korean Web Serial Novel by Flada, adapted into a Korean Webtoon by Jaerim.

Yeonu has spent two years in a loveless, sexless Marriage of Convenience with her cold husband Seonjae. Finally sick of this, she asks him to sign divorce papers, which he does with no argument, but seems reluctant and regretful. As she mulls this over and begins to have second thoughts, she chases after him to discuss it, only to witness him being hit by a car and dying.

After the funeral, still processing her grief and regrets, Yeonu goes to sleep, and finds herself waking up three months before Seonjae's death. Now with a chance to change the future and save his life, she begins speaking up for herself in ways she never had before, and both she and her husband begin to realize that many things they had assumed about each other were wrong.

Can she change his fate? And perhaps even secure a happy ending for both of them?

The official English translation of the webtoon can be read here

Tropes:

  • Marriage of Convenience: Seonjae initially proposed to Yeonu partly to shield her from harassment. She assumed that was the only reason, but he actually is attracted to her.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The crux of the series. Yeonu and Seonjae made many mistaken assumptions about each other, rather than simply talking.
  • Sexless Marriage: They have one because each thinks the other doesn't want to be in the marriage to begin with. They're both wrong.
  • This Is My Side: After they wed and move into Seonjae's house, he divides it into his and her sides and decrees they are to stay in separate bedrooms. He does this under the mistaken assumption that it would make her more comfortable, since he thinks she doesn't want to be married to him.
  • Unwanted Spouse: Each of them thinks the other doesn't want to be in the marriage, and at the beginning of the comic Yeonu has gotten fed up and genuinely wants out.
