YMMV / Legends of Tomorrow S1E6 "Star City 2046"

Go To

  • Bizarro Episode: Not at the time, but future seasons across the Arrowverse made it increasingly hard to keep this one making sense in canon.
  • Developer's Foresight:
    • All members and allies of Team Arrow are Killed Off for Real in 2046 except Oliver so Arrow Season 4's current "Who's in the Grave?" mystery will not be spoiled. The noted exception is Felicity, who is explicitly stated to have survived, but has long since left anyway as she could no longer bear to live in Star City after her friends' deaths, as Felicity was already confirmed to not be the person in the grave. While Connor said that he was old enough at the time when Diggle died, this episode is established as an Alternate Timeline anyway.
    • Barry not showing up for aid as it has been established since The Flash (2014)'s Pilot Episode that he will disappear in 2024.
  • Spiritual Licensee: Some fans call this the best episode of Arrow in several seasons.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Connor Hawke finally comes to the Arrowverse, but heavily altered and doesn't join the team.
    • Ray was sidelined to fixing the Waverider in a goofy subplot, whereas this episode could have been a perfect time to flesh him out given that a.) this episode takes place in his hometown, and b.) his origins are connected to Slade Wilson as well due to the murder of his fiancee. Word of God is that they thought of that, but didn't go with it to not make the episode too dark and deep.
    • Grant Wilson doesn't get much development; his motive for attacking Star City goes unmentioned, as does any relationship he had with his father, Slade. The character had some nice potential for a revenge story, seeking to avenge his father's defeat at Oliver's hands and continuing the Cycle of Revenge that began between Oliver and Slade on Lian Yu. Instead, he's a Villain of the Week, remarkable mostly for being Slade's son.
    • Slade's status in 2046, and any relationship or impact he had on Grant is left ambiguous. His absence is quite glaring, as he has a good claim on being Oliver's Arch-Enemy and has a history with Sara as well.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Vandal Savage having nothing to do with 2046 Star City's Dystopian state. It was established that he has powerful connections all over the world, so why not have him hire, recruit or support the son of the Arch-Enemy of the Arrowverse's inaugural hero to help his conquest? Doing that would've boost Savage's credibility as a dreaded Evil Overlord in the future.
    • Many believed that Ray should have shared the limelight with Sara as this episode largely focused on their hometown and his Origin Story is also indirectly linked to Slade Wilson. Word of God is that they thought of that, but didn't go with it to not make the episode too dark and deep.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: The Love Triangle subplot with Kendra, Ray and Jax is probably only done to poke fun at shippers and lambast the Romantic Plot Tumor that was recently plaguing Arrow.
  • Unexpected Character: Sara is shocked to learn that Slade has a son named Grant. Amusingly, she acts surprised that Slade had a son at all, in spite of the fact she knew of his other son Joe.
