YMMV / Jay Jay the Jet Plane

Go To

  • Accidental Nightmare Fuel: The planes' faces. Especially disconcerting is the fact that the faces of the younger planes barely look like those of the young "kids" they're supposed to be.
  • Awesome Music: For what it's worth, some of the show's songs were pretty catchy:
    • "Wing Wigglin'" is liable to get stuck in your head for a few hours.
    • And of course, there's also the show's theme song.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The aspect of the show that's remembered most fondly is Brenda Blue, with her inviting, motherly nature making what fans there are love her.
  • Fan Nickname: Fans like to call the pilot series "The Model Series" to distinguish it from the CGI series.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Aside from the poorly-aged motion capture for the planes gaining infamy, Jay Jay was a popular character to use in animutations back when they were extremely popular, such as Neil Cicierega's animutation of the first ending for Pokémon: The Series.
    • Whenever mention of the show pops up in a YouTube comments section, expect one to reinforce that "WE DON'T TALK ABOUT JAY JAY THE JET PLANE!"
    • An edited image of Jay Jay that looks like he just blew up a city became a popular lable meme in 2021.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Tracy's Nightmare Sequence where anything she touches turns into candy. She likes it at first, but she soon realizes she'd effectively kill anyone and everyone she touches, and ultimately ends up getting herself and all her friends stuck on a runaway when she touches said runway with her wheels, turning it into candy. The sequence ends with her crying out for help.
  • Retroactive Recognition: The narrator in the pilot series is none other than John William Galt, who would later be more known for his roles in many retro first person shooter games such as Shadow Warrior (1997) (Lo Wang), Daikatana (Toshiro Ebihara), and Deus Ex (Joseph Manderley, Jock, Tracer Tong).
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • Due to the early use of CGI and Motion Capture at the time, it comes off as this, especially with the mouth movements.
    • In "Evan Gets His Wings", Herky briefly becomes an unmoving 2D image as he rides on top of Evan.
    • During the skywriting sequence in "Tracy's Song", neither Snuffy nor Tracy blink.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song:
    • Portions of "Super Sonic Boom" are similar to "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac.
    • "I'm a Speedy Guy" is to the tune of "Get Ready" by The Temptations.
    • "Amelia" sounds very similar to the Christmas song "The Man with the Bag".
