YMMV / I Love You, Man

Go To

  • Adorkable: Peter is a good example but he's more socially awkward than nerdy. Almost anything he says in an attempt to be cool is a combo of hilarious, embarrassing and clumsy.
Peter: I will see you there or I will see you on another time.
Sydney: (Beat) That was very confusing. I don't know if you're gonna come or not.
Peter: No, I'll be there. I'll be there.
Sydney: [laughing] Alright I'll see you then, buddy.
Peter: Alright. Laters on the menjay.
    [Hangs up]
Peter: (beat) What did I just say?
  • Cringe Comedy: Sydney’s engagement party speech implying that Zooey should suck Peter’s dick more often, as his family listens in horror.
  • Funny Moments: Now with its own page.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • "I love you, man."
    • Early in the film, Peter's father tells him that his two best friends are Hank Mardukas... and Peter's brother, Robbie. Peter is visibly a bit disappointed by this. At the wedding, though, his father holds both his sons in his arms and says "Just for the record, you're both my best friends. And Hank Mardukas."
    • Sydney's reaction to Peter asking him to be his best man.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: We get a scene with Andy Samberg and Joe Lo Truglio four years before Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Zoe’s friends saying that Peter having no friends of his own will make him an overbearing husband is portrayed as them being mean, but it’s actually a pretty common occurrence when someone enters a relationship without friends. To the point where even Peter realizes they have a point and starts his friend search right after.
  • Memetic Mutation: SLAPPIN' DA BASS, MON!
  • Moment of Awesome: A few.
    • Sydney's dead-on play-by-play of... a fart.
    • The overwhelming response to Sydney's wedding gift to Peter and Zooey.
  • The Woobie: Peter, definitely.
    • Sydney, as well, in the wake of his falling out with Peter.
