YMMV / Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: It's been brought up in the fandom that given Suzu's super-sensitive mechanical ears, she's probably heard some... risque, to say the least, activities.
    • Possibly a case of Obfuscating Stupidity / Obfuscating Insanity in a similar vein to a certain starship captain, its not really clear if Tori is as hopeless as he is made out to be. Supposedly, he is called "Impossible Aoi Tori" because it's seemingly impossible for him to do anything right. However he has done some things that make the viewer/reader stop for a moment and go "THAT'S BRILLIANT!". Take for example his debate in volume one with Masazumi Honda where instead of taking the side he really wanted( rescuing Horizon) he took the opposite because he knew that Masazumi was a better debater than he was, and could make his arguments for him and convince everyone that it was a good idea, and even went first so as to strengthen even more the rescue Horizon side(not to mention that the side he chose was easier to win with anyway). In a case of Crazy-Prepared he also had gone around and gotten questions from prominent individuals to ask that he knew he wouldn't be able to respond to, partially to help convince people it was a good idea and partially to force Masazumi to reinforce what he wanted in general. Genius. This is the same character who groped the teacher who just proved she could take the entirety of Class 3-Plum at once in a fight. For the lulz.
    • Before the start of the story, Tori was worshiping a high ranking Shinto God of entertainment whose blessings were completely useless to him since they were all based on power sharing and Tori had nothing worth sharing. This however changes entirely the moment he becomes Viceroy and his God's blessings now let him act as an army super charger. This tends to suggest Tori has been very serious about and making preparations for being king for a long time now.
  • Fridge Horror: Apparently, Kimi thought the best way to snap Tori out of his funk was by cramming a hot sauces and spices down his throat, including the bottle, and then jam her whole hand down his mouth. It's somewhat justified, but still...
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During Toori's dialogue with Horizon, just after he managed to change her mind, his pervertedness kicks in and asks "I can't even grab your boobs, can I?" (with the expected responses from Horizon and a few others). Moments later during the ensuing battle, while arguing with Innocentius, he points towards Horizon as part of his argument, except that his finger actually pokes one of her boobs in the process. Horizon even lampshades that act after the two of them enter the Phantom Zone.
  • Narm: "Zwei Frauen" is treated as an impressive Red Baron title for Margot and Malga, but given that it just means "two women" in German, it comes off as rather banal.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?: The anime likes to throw Christian symbolism akin to Neon Genesis Evangelion. "Judge(ment)", "Tes(tament)" and "GENESIS" are but a few, but episode five may remind you of End of Evangelion's own symbolism.
