YMMV / Home Alone: The Holiday Heist

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: With this being the fifth Home Alone movie, fans have referred to it as Home Alone 5.
  • Jerkass Woobie: The criminals, especially Sinclair, who has a valid reason for wanting to steal the painting.
  • More Popular Replacement: Finn Baxter was approved as a replacement of the Kevin McCallister of Home Alone 4, which was a severe Canon Defilement retconning his previous portrayal by Macaulay Culkin. This is ironic, considering the first time Kevin got replaced in Home Alone 3, his then-successor Alex Pruitt attained Replacement Scrappy status simply because he was a new character.
  • Rooting for the Empire: Sinclair and his team, not only are they all Affably Evil Jerkass Woobies, but Sinclair actually has a valid reason for wanting to steal the painting.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: While it still wasn't on the same level as the first two films, the fifth movie is a noticeable improvement over the fourth, and actually feels like a Home Alone film.
  • Tear Jerker: Jessica was romantically involved with her previous accomplice, Steven. She was heartbroken after he defected from Sinclair's group and spends the movie constantly texting him, hoping he will call back. Near the end, he does, but just as she's trying to speak with him on her cell phone, Fin's friend shows up and starts pelting her with snowballs, ruining her chance to reconcile with Steven and causing her to yell at the kid, which Steven mistakes for her insulting him. He ends up hanging up on her.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: The thieves are meant to be seen as bad guys, but they had no intention of hurting anyone. Sinclair only wanted the painting, but sadly he, alongside Jessica and Hughes, are arrested after numerous pranks and traps Finn set up.
