• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • How come Nick was able to notice Charlie's eating disorders and not Tao and Aled, his Childhood Friends?
  • Is Ben really in love with Charlie or does he only use him just to satisfy his desires?
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite being amongst "the adults" in a teen-centered story, the readers are considerable fans of Mr. Farouk and Mr. Ajayi, the teachers who chaperoned the school trip to Paris. A major reason is because they fall in love with each other in Paris, serving as a Beta Couple that parallels Nick and Charlie's own relationship. Fan demand motivated the author to release Side-Story Bonus Art of Mr. Farouk and Mr. Ajayi going on a proper date, becoming a couple, and moving in with each other.
  • Christian, Otis/Omar and especially Sai appear more frequently in fanfiction than they ever do in the comics, thanks to being some actually nice rugby friends for Nick, the fact they were the first characters to notice his crush on Charlie, and Sai's snarky personality.
• Fanon: A common assumption is that David Nelson developed into a bullying jerk as a result of feeling abandoned by Stéphane's absence, while Nick avoided going by the same way by staying closer to their mum. (Largely to explain how Sarah ended up raising such an arsehole and how different David and Nick are).
• Harsher in Hindsight: The special features in the back of the second volume feature labelled references for Charlie and Nick that explain their tastes in casual and smart clothing. Charlie's described as being "always cold" and thus loving anything that's warm and snuggly, especially Nick's hoodies. This is seemingly just a small, cute detail with little meaning. Well, come the reveal that Charlie undereats due to a disorder, it's easy to connect the dots and realize that Charlie feels cold all the time as a symptom of his condition.
• Memetic Mutation: Chad David ^Explanation On 4chan’s /lgbt/ board, David is depicted as a complete “chad” and The Casanova who cucks Nick by sleeping with Charlie.
• More Popular Spin-Off: Alice Oseman is primarily a YA literature author whose books focus on different characters in the same setting. For instance, Oseman's debut novel focuses on Charlie's sister, Tori, as the protagonist. Despite being in the author's secondary medium, Heartstopper has emerged as the most popular of Oseman's works.
• Portmanteau Couple Name: Narlie.
