• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The Maguma scene is this as the idea of a giant monster hasn’t been mentioned before or after they kill it. So much so he was cut from the American dub entirely.
• Broken Base: The Maguma sequence as a whole is hotly debated by many Toku fans on whether it’s a cool sequence with a neat looking Kaiju, or the worst scene of the whole film with a goofily designed monster that added nothing to the story.
• Nightmare Fuel: The very idea of Gorath is quite unnerving. It’s essentially a moving celestial body that could cause the end of civilization.
• Retroactive Recognition: Special effects wise, this film marked the earliest known involvement of Teruyoshi Nakano and Koichi Kawakita, both of whom would work on the special effects for the Godzilla series after Tsuburaya passed away ^note  Nakano would work on the effect for the last five Showa era films plus The Return of Godzilla and Kawakita worked on the majority of the Heisei era films.
