- Critic-Proof: Puccini's operas have been regularly criticised for being banal, melodramatic, Narm-y... you get the idea. They still have the power to fill theatres.
- Tear Jerker: Expect at least one in each opera, most notably La Bohème. Its Downer Ending, wherein Mimi dies of consumption, has the power to move entire audiences to tears, but it can especially be a literal Tear Jerker for recent widowers.
