• Franchise Original Sin: This is the first of the show's "Religious person/people cause problems" plots that the series would later become infamous for. However, this episode feels more even-handed than successive episodes using this plotline as it presented a reasonable religious character who helped resolve Peter's issue in the episode. It also helps that Francis is shown to be a generally awful individual who is just using religion as an excuse to mistreat others, instead of his religion being the direct cause of his behavior.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Francis ends up working with the Pope (back when John Paul II was the Pope). The current pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, took the name Francis.
