YMMV / Evil Dead Rise

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Beth tries to reassure Kassie that they will find a way out of the apartment after both Ellie and Bridget have been possessed. Kassie replies that, one day, Beth will be a good mother: "You know how to lie to kids."
  • Memetic Mutation: Raimi’s creepy mommies Explanation
  • Nausea Fuel: Quite a bit of it, this being the Evil Dead franchise and all, but some mention must go to the eggs the possessed Ellie cracks in a frying pan shortly before she becomes hostile—there's blood in them, mixed in with the egg yolks. Nasty.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Decoy Protagonist Teresa endears herself to a lot of fans in her short screen time and gets some He's Just Hiding sentiment.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Deadites tend to be very active threats and rarely linger in places they can't do direct harm in. Deadite Ellie could easily walk the halls of the high rise slaughtering and infecting anyone she came across, but chooses to sit outside her apartment door instead. Then again, we don't actually know she wasn't doing that.
  • Salvaged Story: A minor case, but there's always been some confusion as to why the Book of the Dead has had different names across the franchise - "Naturom Demonto" in The Evil Dead and Evil Dead (2013), "Necronomicon Ex Mortis" everywhere else. This film provides an explanation: The book in this film is described as "one of three volumes of Naturom Demonto", which means we can assume that "Necronomicon Ex Mortis" is the name of the specific volume that plagued Ash all those years ago.
  • She Really Can Act: This was Nell Fisher's debut film. Far from being a weakness, she puts on an excellent display as the youngest child Kassie, especially given that children in horror films tend to be somewhat hit or miss on performance.
  • Tearjerker:
    • Poor Kassie loses her entire immediate family in one night after they all tried to murder her. Although she luckily still has her Aunt Beth, she's more than likely been traumatized for life.
    • Danny's final words to Kassie before he dies is a tearful apology. Having been the one who brought the evils of the Naturom Demonto into the world and destroyed his family as a result, it's all he can do for his youngest sister before he dies and inevitably becomes a Deadite himself.
  • The Woobie: Everyone in the family counts, but special mention goes to Kassie, who loses her mother and siblings, and ends the night covered in their mulched remains.
