  • Common Knowledge: The movie's language is sometimes reported as "old" or "archaic" Basque. While a dead dialect of Basque, this is (was) as modern as any other dialect spoken today, excluding unified standard Basque (batua).
  • Dancing Bear: The movie's main claim to fame is being a feature film that is based on Basque folklore and filmed entirely in Basque, yet released theatrically instead of being relegated to Basque regional TV. Urkijo's next film, Irati, makes the same bear dance in an epic scale.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • To The Day of the Beast, Álex de la Iglesia's first successful film (whereas this is Urkijo's first feature length film). Not for nothing it is also "presented by" de la Iglesia. Both are satirical horror comedies/fantasies about devils on Earth and a common Basque man trying to stop them, brought by Basque writers and directors, with a giant devil as an antagonist in the last part of the film.
    • Some reviewers have also drawn comparisons to Pan's Labyrinth (Dark Fantasy in the guise of a fairy tale, featuring a young outcast girl in danger, and set against a historical war in Spain), Legend (another 'adult fairy tale' with a Big Red Devil as antagonist), and Little Nicky (for its Butt-Monkey devil and comedic, bureaucratic depiction of Hell).
    • Urkijo's next film, Irati, continues the trend of using a Historical Fantasy setting inspired by Basque folklore/mythology and being mostly/entirely written in Basque.
