  • Awesome Music: The entire score, completely composed of original compositions, counts. Special mention goes to the opening theme. You just know you’re in for something awesome when that music swells.
  • Can't Un-Hear It: Good luck hearing Edwin Stanton and Andrew Johnson as anyone other than Jeremy Schwartz and R. Bruce Elliott after listening to this podcast.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Pretty much anytime Stanton comes down with a coughing fit is this given that he dies not long after the events of the final episode.
  • He Really Can Act: Many of the cast already had experience in the anime dubbing industry, but here they get a chance to show-off their voice acting skills outside the anime world. Special mention goes to Jeremy Schwartz and R. Bruce Elliott for their particularly emotional and heartfelt performances as Stanton and Johnson respectively.
  • Tear Jerker: The series ends with a reading of Stanton’s obituary. It really underscores just what a lion of a man he was, and all that he fought for.
  • Unconventional Learning Experience: The attention to historical detail, plus the bonus episodes exploring the history behind the fiction, mean that is is possible to learn quite a bit about the history of the Johnson Administration and the politics of late 1860s America. Likewise, the bonus episodes also provide quite a bit of information about what goes into the making of an audio drama podcast.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The creators maintain that any parallels to the presidency of Donald Trump are purely coincidental. The story has been worked on for several years prior to Trump taking office. That having been said, as noted on the main page, the creators did have their fun with these parallels on Twitter.
