• Just Here for Godzilla: Most fans were in it solely for Dragon Ball and One Piece and wanting an animated special with the two (they had a manga crossover special prior in Cross Epoch and most animated one they had was a 3D ride where Luffy and Goku fought Eneru). Not that Toriko didn't have its fans, but it was far from being a powerhouse when this special aired and was only getting by due to Toei trying to push it since Eiichiro Oda and Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (One Piece and Toriko's authors respectively) were friends in real life.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Funny as it is for the reason why they were left out, it's still annoying that Zoro, Vegeta and Zebra's roles for the special just amounted to a joke rather then participating in the arena battle or the battle with the monster.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The special is dated rather cleanly to 2013, a period when some of Shonen Jump's main money-spinners (most notably, Naruto and Bleach) were trending down in popularity or wrapping up, and it was attempting to push Toriko as a potential replacement, with Eiichiro Oda famously calling its author his rival and doing regular crossovers. The year after that, Toriko's anime was cancelled in the wake of its Non-Serial Movie bombing, and Shonen Jump managed to find considerably more success stories (most notably My Hero Academia), leaving the special as a bit of a relic of that era.
