- And You Thought It Would Fail: Before Betty Box bought the film rights, no one wanted them as no film about doctors had been successful in the past. However, this film was estimated to have recouped its budget in the first six weeks of being released.
- One-Scene Wonder: Joan Sims as Rigor Mortis. She's on-screen for less than a minute and spends most of that time munching on an apple, yet still provides a rather amusing scene.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- The Dean is played by Geoffrey Keen, who would later be best known for playing Sir Frederick Gray in the James Bond films.
- Milly Groaker is played by Shirley Eaton, who would later be best known for playing Jill Masterson in Goldfinger.
- Mrs. Groaker is played by Joan Hickson, who would later be best known for playing Miss Marple in Miss Marple (1984).
- Rigor Mortis is played by Joan Sims, five years before she joined the Carry On... Series.
- May is played by Gudrun Ure, who would later be best known for playing Super Gran in Super Gran.
- Signature Scene: The famous "bleeding time" scene. Sir Lancelot explains the "bleeding time", then asks a distracted Simon, "You! What's the bleeding time?", to which Simon checks his watch. It was later referenced in Doctor in Distress (1963) and James Robertson Justice's biography James Robertson Justice: What's the Bleeding Time?.
- Values Dissonance: As the film was made in The '50s, some things don't fly with today's society:
- One of the nurses is played by a white actress in Blackface.
- The mention of dating an Indian girl is met with the comment of being "knee-deep in boiled rice".
- Mrs. Groaker's advert for a room for rent notes that she doesn't take any Irish gentlemen.
