YMMV / Demon In Fodlan

Go To

  • Angel/Devil Shipping: Goetia has this dynamic with several of his ships, particularly with Byleth, Sothis, Rhea and Flayn. Goetia is Beast I, the fomer King of Demon Gods and is viewed as a heathen foreigner, while Byleth is the vessel of the Goddess, Sothis is that said Goddess, Rhea is the Archbishop and Saint Seiros and Flayn is Saint Cethleann.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Thales is just as smug and arrogant as he was in the original, generally looking down on the surface dwellers, including Goetia. Even after the former demon made quick work of the Enhanced Demonic Beast he sent to kill the Golden Deer, Thales still regards him as an insect. So, it is no surprise that Lemegeton rightfully gets enraged when he learns that Thales neglected to mention Goetia to him, beating the Agarthan leader to near death all the while giving him "The Reason You Suck" Speech, putting him in his place.
    • Kronya being put in her place by Goetia when he decides to finally confront her regarding the Agarthan's perspective between their conflict with Sothis which ends with her terrified and being forced to accept Goetia's offer to work as his spy to the Agarthans.
  • Epileptic Trees: In Chapter 41, Aelfric has a strange reaction when Byleth introduces herself and mispronounces her name as "Beleth", and any mention of Sitri during his POV is in bold. It did not take long for readers to start guessing Aelfric is possessed by a Demon Pillar, especially given Lemegeton's presence and his possible connection to Demon King Goetia. Adding further fuel to the fire is Aelfric's disgusted reaction upon meeting Goetia for the first time. Chapter 55 puts speculations to rest by revealing Aelfric is indeed possessed by a Demon Pillar.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Aelfric's strange reaction to Byleth's name and behavior around Goetia has several readers theorizing that he's possessed by a Demon Pillar. Come Chapter 55, that theory gets proven true when Sitri sheds off Aelfric's form, finally revealing itself.
    • Readers start theorizing that Sothis was a Machine God, which Chapter 103 finally confirms.
    • Plenty of commenters have already guessed that Lemegeton's host was Nemesis' corpse long before it was confirmed in the Interlude.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Expect Goetia to be shipped with a number of characters. Though Goetia/Byleth started early on in the story, new pairings start forming such as Goetia/Sothis and later Goetia/Rhea for the Foe Romantic Subtext the two have, the latter pairing having grown stronger in the aftermath of the Cindered Shadows arc to the point where Every One Can See It and has been teased in a non-canon omake. Then there are those who compromised with an OT3 between Goetia, Byleth and Sothis or Goetia, Byleth and Rhea. Other shippings with Goetia also include Flayn and Shamir. Then there are those who Take the Third Option and have Goetia follow in Solomon's footsteps by marrying them all.
    • Dorothea even joins the list following her interactions in helping Goetia on socializing and presenting himself better to others.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: The first month in the monastery takes roughly 18 chapters, including the first monthly assignment. It is justified since Goetia is not an active character, preferring to observe rather than participate and the early chapters mostly focuses on his interaction with the characters and adjusting to life in the monastery. Then the story starts to pick up once the Lonato's rebellion arc begins.
