YMMV / Daphne & Velma

Go To

  • Fight Scene Failure: While it is on some level clearly trying to be cheesy and campy, the climactic battle between Velma and a bunch of spider robots is bizarre, with the actress swinging her hands as animation tries to sync with her movements, and bizarre editing meaning it mostly consists of the actress striking poses between unnecessary cuts.
  • Fridge Horror: The Curse of Crystal Cove from Mystery Incorporated exists in this universe. If it's anything like it was back there...
  • Girl-Show Ghetto: A lot of fans are put off by how the film focuses solely on Daphne and Velma while leaving out Shaggy, Scooby, and Fred.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Daphne and Velma have prominent LGBT+ fans, who see the movie as further evidence of their Les Yay.
  • Tainted by the Preview: Many agree that the premise sounds interesting, but the preview has soured those hopes with the choice of casting, costuming, and the quality of it all in general.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Daphne and Velma being recast again, particularly regarding Velma since Hayley Kiyoko was popularly received by Velma fans, especially since Hayley Kiyoko is openly lesbian and has an LGBT Fanbase of her own as well. On the other hand, circles who enjoy person-of-color representation (which is also popular in the Scooby-Doo fandom) are at least happy that the actresses of the titular characters are of Latina/Hispanic descent, with Daphne, in a change from previous incarnations, depicted as having a white father and a black mother.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: According to IMDb, the movie is rated 15 in Denmark.
  • The Woobie: Velma when you think about it. Daphne was implied to be her only friend and until the movie's events, was only an Internet friend, her classmates have apparently given her trust issues alongside of pushing her into a Friendless Background and she's had to pretend to be less intelligent than she actually is to keep from getting kidnapped.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: Daphne's hairstyle has gotten flack for being some sort of hybrid between letting her hair down and having a bun at the same time, while Velma's hairstyle is also criticized for being a very plain bob.
