  • Accidental Innuendo: Frequently, as Phil is on the channel.
    • When it became clear that Dil and Eliza would not be getting together, Phil said that Dil couldn't "get through the tunnel of friendship"...by making a circle with one hand and then shoving his entire arm through it. Dan was horrified and apologized to the audience while an embarrassed Phil scooted away.
    • When Dan and Phil open a Christmas cracker and Dan gets a ruler, Phil innocently asks him, "What are you gonna measure?"
    • In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, there's a way for a second player to ride on the first player's back. Phil originally refers to it as "mounting", but he catches on...and continues to refer to it as such throughout the videos.
    • The second "Golf with Friends" video may contain the greatest amount of Phil innuendos in one episode, and Dan requests him to never say most of the phrases that come out of his mouth.
    • This is taken to Serial Escalation levels during their episodes of Fireboy and Watergirl. When Phil dubs Watergirl's female-symbol level exit door the "lady door", Dan notes how it sounds like a euphemism, and it quickly turns into a meme. In the next video, Phil tries to rectify this, and only produces the worse alternative "female exit", and the third time, he brings us "queen cage". Both quickly joined "lady door" in memes.
  • Broken Base: Their playthrough of "My Horse Prince" was slightly controversial, with some fans enjoying the game's sense of humor and over-the-top parody, and others finding the central concept of a girl falling in love with what is, for all intents and purposes, a horse, too weird and uncomfortable to be funny. Dan and Phil acknowledged this and opted to do a marathon episode to finish the game rather than continue as they had with more parts, so both sides could have what they wanted.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Most, if not all, of the Howlter family are this to some degree.
    • Phil's game, The Mark of Oxin. In the comments for their second (and final) episode playing the game, there are numerous cries for Phil to make a sequel. Keep in mind this is a low-quality game Phil made when he was fourteen. It now has its own page.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: In Episode 29 of their Sims playthrough, Erica declined Dil's wedding invitation, yet showed up anyway, seemingly to taunt him. But it is revealed several episodes later that Tabitha and Erica are fairly good friends, despite their differing personalities. Thus it could be interpreted that Erica declined Dil's invitation, but then realized who the bride was, so she came to the wedding to support her friend despite loathing the groom.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • After over a year of mishaps and comedic incompetence, Sims Dil and Tabitha have a perfect wedding.
    • Dil and Tabitha's relationship in general is adorable. Especially as Dil goes from being a socially awkward geek with no real friends who continually gets rejected by girls to a socially awkward geek with a great job, a loving wife, and happy children... and Eliza Pancakes.
    • On a meta level, just how many viewers (including people on This Very Wiki) who are genuinely invested in the life of someone else's Sim. Phil definitely isn't alone when he says he'd probably cry if Dil died.
    • Episode #46 of the Sims playthrough. 25 straight minutes of Dan and Phil fawning over Dil's new dog, squeeing at every other moment, and the entire family enjoying their new furry friend. It's impossible not to crack a grin while watching.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Their playthrough of Undertale was totally blind, which leads to some amusement if you've played the game and know about all the endings, as well as all the twists and turns in the game. The fact that they gave the Fallen Child a very nonthreatening name — Toto — in particular is pretty funny.
    • In one episode of The Sims, Dil plays a phone game outside, and Dan sarcastically remarks that he ought to go outside to play a phone app sometime. Just a couple of years later, a phone app that brought people outside became a worldwide sensation.
    • In episode 12 of the Sims playthrough, they come across the achievement for successfully WooHooing in a rocket ship, and Phil wonders if Dil can breed with an alien. The answer turns out to be "Can he ever".
  • Ho Yay: After they became teenagers, Dab is revealed to be a romantic Sim, whose potential flirtatious interactions pop up whenever he talks to Evan. While the first attempt (an abrupt hand kiss) was an awkward failure, further romantic advances succeed and lead to them becoming an Official Couple.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Show of hands — who only rewatches the "Impossible Quiz" videos just to watch Dan freak out? Especially his meltdown in the last one.
    • Similarly, who watches their "Spooky Week" games just to see if Dan will fall off his chair again?
  • Love to Hate: Erica Pendleton from the Sims playthrough. She's hostile and bitchy, actually has an "evil" personality, and brings out the worst in Dil — and it's hilarious.
  • Memetic Mutation: Their April Fool parody channel, "Dan and Phil Crafts", quickly became one, in particular the ending signoff: "Don't cry—craft!" The fanbase took this literally, replacing the word "cry" with "craft", i.e. "I crafted so hard at the sad part", etc.
    • Also from Dan and Phil Crafts videos from the following years came "Protip!" and "Soft and neat."
  • Moe:
    • Dil Howlter. Cute looks? Check. Nerdy interests? Check. Clumsy? Huge check. Huggable and lovable? Absolutely! Just read the comments on the Sims videos for proof of that!
    • His girlfriend Tabitha qualifies for similar reasons, though she's more childish and enthusiastic than klutzy.
    • Not to mention his son Dab. Especially as a toddler.
  • Never Live It Down: A lighthearted example, but the fandom isn't about to let Dan forget about that time he fell off his chair when he got Jumpscared by a game any time soon.
  • One True Pairing: Who doesn't ship Tabitha/Dil? It helps that it's the only one of his relationships that hasn't been a huge disaster. Dab and Evan are this for the game's younger generation, especially since becoming teenagers.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: "Dummer" for Dil/Summer, "Howlcakes" for Dil (Howlter)/Eliza (Pancakes), "Dilitha" or "Dabitha" for Dil/Tabitha, and "Devan" for Dab/Evan. All have been used/coined by Dan and Phil in the Sims series.

  • Quirky Work:
    • "THE FINAL GOOGLE FEUD" has this reputation among the Phandom, as Dan and Phil seemed extra loopy in it, especially after their pizza intermission, leading people to speculate they might have had something else with pizza. Years later, Phil said they were simply over exhausted; the video was filmed at the end of the North America leg of the Interactive Introverts tour, after all.
    • Dan and Phil have said a lot of their most iconic and unhinged videos were filmed at 3 am.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Watching the earlier episodes of the Sims playthrough can be entertaining, since it's easy to recognize Sims that don't become relevant to the playthrough until later on.
  • Toy Ship: From the moment he came into existence, people were already shipping Evan with Dab. Fortunately, Dan and Phil are on board, and they eventually start an official relationship.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Leroy Casper, Tabitha's ex-husband. The nature of his relationship with Tabitha is incredibly hostile, she lived with him even after their divorce before leaving him for Dil, but he has never made an on-screen appearance. Dan and Phil have also never expressed interest in playing as him.
