YMMV / Daitarn 3

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Toppo. He's either a funny companion or an annoying nuisance.
    • Banjou, or rather his characterization in some Super Robot Wars games anyway. He is either loved for being a Memetic Badass and Game-Breaker incarnate, or hated for being way too overexposed in most titles he is featured. Having appeared in each title without using its plot (the last time Daitarn's plot was used in a console SRW title was in Alpha 2) and act as Filler or being the good guys' financier of their activities doesn't help. Most people think that he is the reason why other classic titles such as Mosapeda, Vifram, and Govarian weren't featured in any SRW title.
  • Fan Nickname: "Space pimp" for Banjō.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Despite being relatively unsuccessful in Japan, the series became very popular abroad, especially in Italy during the 80's. There was even an Italian band named after the main antagonists, the Meganoids. Though at the very least, in Japan, it would be Vindicated by History thanks to its many appearances in Super Robot Wars.
  • Memetic Badass: Any Super Robot Wars game he's featured in turns Banjou into an unbeatable Cape, who will always save the day wherever he turns up. His epic In the Name of the Moon speech helps. In Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-Hen, even fuckin' Lordgenome was afraid of him. In Super Robot Wars Z2: Saisei-Hen, Banjou, with the help of Roger Smith, use their combined awesomeness to kick Code Geass canon in the 'nads by keeping both Shirley AND Euphie from being killed off, provided you obtain sufficient "Zero points". Only Rom Stol is more awesome in his Cape-ness, and Banjou has been in a lot more games. Some recent Super Robot Wars address this as the nice and The Cape Banjou is just a façade. Some characters, especially villains will notice that Banjou hides something behind this façade. When Megazoids are involved, Banjou will remove the mask and become very irritable and angry, at the surprise of other characters who don't know this side of him. This also factored why Banjou is a Base-Breaking Character to the community: Ever since the more widespread Z saga, the Meganoids were rarely to never featured (it was only added back in DD), so players rarely get to see the more 'interesting' Banjou-beneath-the-façade.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The Meganoids (with the exception of Lisa though she tragically dies in the only episode she's in, a handful of meganoid scientists who don't want to fight him and to an extent if Doil's Redemption Means Death also count). They could have been more sympathetic if they accept Banjo's offer to surrender, atone their sins and not harm humans anymore, even so helping him in facing off against their own kind who are still loyal to Don Sauzer. But instead, they put humans into Unwilling Roboticization, straight-up killing them if they refused, competing themselves so that they would be accepted as Don Sauzer's right-hand man instead of Koros and destroy cities. Even more so in the finale where they could have been terraforming mars or invade any other planet besides Earth so that they could never harm humans in the first place. Or if they refused, their deaths could have been a lot more tragic if a few of them have at least 1 or 2 sympathetic qualities (besides the aforementioned Lisa and Doil, a Meganoid scientist who sacrifices herself by saving a lost civilization from a missile launched by Koros) which makes the ending of the show more heart-wrenching than it already was. Instead, a majority of them were irredeemable bastards who are unwilling to accept defeat which got themselves killed by Banjou.
    • Koros. She could ask Banjou or his father for help involving Don Zauser's real condition, but instead she sends all of Don Sauzer's troops to kill him while finding a way to fully awaken her husband.
