YMMV / DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Everything about Eunju. Is her backstory tragic, or is she just angsting? Did she just not notice the bullying going on in her class, or did she look the other way? Does she truly love Taebin solely because he was the first to acknowledge her hard efforts, or did she fall for him because he was hot too? Is she a saint with the ability to see the beauty in ugly people, or is she deluding herself and unable to admit that she's as shallow as everyone else? Does she hate dice because she believes it's the root of all evil, or because dice makes everyone else as good as her, which means she's no longer the center of the universe? Is she overly perfect, or does all the hate the fandom directs towards her merely prove that she's Too Good for This Sinful Earth?
    • Jieun. Is she a tragic character who is simply unable to completely move past her trauma and paranoia just desperately reaching towards the only salvation she believes that exists? Or is she an Ungrateful Bastard towards pretty much the entirety of the protagonists who spend as much time as possible trying to help and trust her, thinking nothing of the conflict at large? It's a complex matter to debate as her issues are quite relatable to those who may have had images and media leaked that ruin their livelihoods, while at the same time she commits greater and greater atrocities in order to wipe out said issues.
  • Awesome Music: The manhwa uses music from the band "The Rock Diamond", made specifically for it. Some examples are The First Day, Chaos and Abraxas
  • Ho Yay:
    • It's very much hinted that Taebin had romantic feelings for Mooyoung. Chapter 76 has him confessing (as mandated by the conditions of fulfilling his A-rank quest) that he "liked him," something that was so difficult for him to do that he only managed it in his most dire hour. Chapter 108 ends with Taebin cradling an injured Mooyoung in his arms and begging him not to die, despite the latter having just ruthlessly murdered all of his friends in cold blood. In the same scene, Mooyoung reaches up and tenderly caresses Taebin's face.
    • During the school PvP arc, Eunju and Mio just can't seem to stop holding hands, holding each other, and just plain touching, despite the fact that they aren't even particularly close and even have some unresolved issues with each other.
  • The Scrappy: A lot of readers are not fond of Eunju because of her ideology with the DICE, making herself a Damsel in Distress with no means of protecting herself, being a love interest of two protagonists without a deep reason, telling Dongtae and Mio they'd be better without the Dice even though their lives before was hell, and eventually becoming a Knight Templar.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Eunju loved to jump rope over this trope. It's clear that she's a very kind girl who only wants things to go back to some semblance of normal after the Dice basically sent everything into absolute chaos. However, she not only fails to take into account those who had absolutely terrible lives prior to the Dice, like Dongtae and Mio, but also goes way off the deep end in her attempt to end the conflict once she obtains her own Dice. It took the writers quite some time to write their way out of Eunju being one of the most hated characters in the webtoon.
    • Jieun. It's very easy to be sympathetic to the poor girl and the absolutely horrific, and relatable, situation she finds herself in when we meet her. On top of that, she has a quite interesting dynamic with Dongtae, which is nice as she's the only recurring female character in the webtoon to not have any romantic possibility with him. But she proceeds to spend the majority of her visible time being an Ungrateful Bastard and backstabbing the protagonists at nearly every possible opportunity in order to obtain the Final Die for herself. Unlike Eunju who gets some much needed Character Rerailment in the latter stages of the webtoon, Jieun acts this way up until the very end of the series. Some fans were NOT happy that she becomes a potential Karma Houdini for all the hell she put the cast through.
