YMMV / Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • The techno music heard in level 5 of both Episodes 1 and 2, and level 3 of the third.
    • Episode 3, level 4 and levels 8/9/10.
    • The main theme is actually Tush by ZZ Top (which is also played on level 10 of the first episode).
  • Breather Level: After the somewhat hard run of levels from 4-8 in the first episode, especially the Eternal Engine in levels 7-8, the fun romp through a Fungus Humongous area in level 9 set to cheery music with easy enemies and tons of powerups can be a big refreshing break before the final level (and the ending of episode 1). You briefly get to feel that sense of wonder once again that you felt in levels 1-3 before Cerebus Syndrome set in.
  • Demonic Spiders: The large, red "devil" enemies with a single huge, clawed foot. They jump around, trying to stomp you, making them somewhat unpredictable, quite a bit more persistent than most other enemies, challenging to stomp on, and difficult to hit with a bomb explosion. They take a lot of stomps to defeat, and are pretty scary-looking to boot. An advantage is that if you manage to pounce on their heads, you will jump pretty high in the air.
  • Goddamn Bats: The blue bird enemies that appear from episode 1 level 3 onwards are pretty irritating. They're very weak, as they can be defeated with a single stomp, but they have an annoying habit of hovering just out of reach of stomping, then swooping down to attack you.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Playing directly off a CD-ROM copy without installing the game to the disk prevents the game from being able to write files. This means your saves and high scores won't be remembered, but it also means that Cosmo's status won't be reset to what it was at the start of the level, allowing you to rack up huge scores by dying repeatedly. It also means that if Cosmo dies by running out of health, his health value will underflow, and he'll be invincible for the rest of the game.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • For kids playing the shareware version, the end of episode 1 ends on a scary note, with Cosmo being eaten by a reptilian monster. They wouldn't know Cosmo survives the event.
    • The second levels of episodes 2 and 3 take place inside some kind of gigantic... monster thing. Complete with ominous music using a heart beat as the main rhythm.
    • The red stomper enemies are also quite scary.
