YMMV / Bureau of Alien Detectors

Go To

  • Narm: The alien terrorists in "The Hunt" look and sound menacing, but the subtitles show that most of their dialogue consists of cheesy, juvenile insults.
  • Paranoia Fuel: A boy in "The Encounter" escapes from his alien-possessed aunt and calls the police, who calmly reassure him as they're shown arming themselves with extraterrestrial weaponry.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: Probably the closest thing we'll ever get to X-COM: The Animated Series.
  • Squick: After the Hive Queen in "The Awakening" is killed by a missile bombardment, one of its eyeballs is shown hanging out of its socket.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Critics of the show noted that even though it employed Family-Friendly Firearms, it was still unusually violent, with characters being killed through means like blasting, being ripped apart, being Eaten Alive, etc. The UCLA even famously labeled it as the most violent cartoon to debut during 1996-1997.
