YMMV / Bela, a Feia

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: There's a supporting character named Armando, who is a fifty-year-old man who loves hanging out with a lot of women. At one point in the soap opera, he flirts with two women, played by Gracyanne Barbosa and Viviane Araújo, and suffice to say, his two-timing ways put the two women in conflict. In real life, Araújo dated Brazilian singer Belo for several years before they separated and he married Barbosa. Brazilian media say Belo's affair with Barbosa began before he broke up with Araújo, and the fact that both actresses hate each other and constantly criticize each other on social media doesn't help.
  • Hollywood Homely: Just like in the original telenovela. Giselle Itié is considered one of the most beautiful women in Brazil (and has in fact played The Vamp in other soap operas), and the soap opera tries to hide her beauty with the huge glasses, makeup and ridiculous clothes. This is made particularly egregious, however, when Bela often takes off her glasses in sex scenes with Rodrigo, and on these occasions, her physical beauty is too evident.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many fans dislike the drastic changes made to the original soap opera, especially the inclusion of a pair of killer villains.
