YMMV / Adam Page

  • Base-Breaking Character: During the Being the Elite cast's time as the pseudo-babyface focus of Bullet Club, Hangman Page was more-or-less unanimously accepted as the hateable dickhead that ensured the BTE cast was still connected to the core heelish BC in more than name. Then March of 2018 happened, with BTE running a storyline centered around Hangman being jealous of Joey Ryan's "penis power" gag at the same time and with the same persona in which he did a Worked Shoot at a press conference calling Jay White a bad IWGP United States Champion because most of his wrestling is in Japan instead of America. Jay, for his part, ate Hangman for lunch by calling out every ridiculous element of the drama dividing Bullet Club Elite while asserting that Page was little more than a lackey to Cody and The Young Bucks in the process. The two feuds culminated with Page putting over both Joey's penis and The Switchblade in the end. This was the point where opinions on Hangman became split down the middle between Bullet Club (nay) and Elite (yay) loyalists, much like the other Elite members and associates before him.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The storyline with Hangman Page and Joey Ryan. He attacked Joey, who seemingly died from the injuries. Page was guilt-ridden, to the point where he would attack other wrestlers who asked questions, and the boots he wore on the night of the attack started talking to him. Stephen Amell was framed for the attack. This was resolved at the ALL IN pay-per-view when Joey "recovered" to get back at Page. Entering with a procession of guys dressed as giant penises.
  • Designated Hero: His feud with Jon Moxley in 2022-2023 initially was because Page wanting to exact revenge on Moxley for giving him a concussion during their match in October 2022. While Mox and the Blackpool Combat Club eventually turned heel, Page on the other rejoins his old friends, the Elite, effectively abandoning the Dark Order, the very same team who had his back during the lowest moments of his life for his more popular but jerkass friends. The Dark Order confronted him for this but not only did Page refused to apologize, he teamed up with the Young Bucks to defeat his former allies. Following the match, the Dark Order abandoned their former ally to be beaten up by the BCC, which was treated as a heel turn for the Dark Order. In addition, while the BCC were indeed a group of ruthless brutes, the Elite were practically the same in brutality and often resorted in cheating in their matches yet they were treated as the Face of the feud.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Bullet Club were given a hero's welcome whenever they showed up in ROH.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In Episode 137 of BTE, Billy Gunn called Page fat, which prompted Page's "Full Gear Challenge" storyline. Billy revealed later that he had legitimate heat for the insult, which he said was supposed to be a joke.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Hangman leveraging his AEW World championship match against Kenny Omega to try and get The Dark Order a shot at The Young Bucks' AEW Tag Team titles.
    • After winning the AEW World Championship, the Dark Order came out to congratulate Page, with Alex Reynolds stepping forward to offer the new champion a can of beer. Instead, Hangman took the can and casually discarded it without hesitating to instead hug Reynolds, with the rest of the Order piling in to celebrate with their friend.
  • Love to Hate: Page was the most unpopular member of Bullet Club, which is to say he's the only one who consistently gets the right kind of heat. Most of them are "badass", "cool" or "fun", but Page was simply a dickhead through and through.
  • Memetic Mutation: WANGMAN.note
  • Refuge in Audacity: The "Where's Hangman?" storyline. In September 2017, WWE sent a legitimate cease-and-desist order to The Young Bucks over the Bucks' use of the "Too Sweet" hand gesture. They spun the incident into segments where they would get bleeped trying to use WWE catchphrases or references. An unseen storyline "WWE stooge" would retaliate with aggressive letters, then escalated the taunts by kidnapping Hangman Page at the end of Episode 69. Episodes 70 and 71 saw the BTE crew worried sick over Hangman's whereabouts. In Episode 72, Page escaped the stooge's capture after the stooge taunted Kenny Omega using a voice box.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Page was initially seen in AEW as, while not necessarily bad, a bland, underwhelming choice to push for the World Championship compared to others in the tournament, especially since he made it to the finals against eventual winner Chris Jericho. Then came his team with Kenny Omega, his feud with the Young Bucks which included a fantastic match at Revolution, and retooling his character into a Functional Addict "anxious millenial cowboy", which turned him to one of the most loved faces in the company. Following his split from The Elite and storyline with The Dark Order culminating in him becoming AEW World Champion, overcoming the now-heel Elite to defeat Omega with Dark Order's support, even fans critical of his character under his former association are now more approving of Page as a high-tier wrestler. His only remaining detractors are those who feel that he is overshadowed by the flood of big-name acquisitions entering the company in 2021, and his first feud as champion seeks to address that, given that it's against one of said acquisitions in Bryan Danielson.
