- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: A Dog of Flanders has largely been forgotten in its native UK and didn't make much of an impact in Belgium despite the story taking place there, but it became hugely popular in Japan, to the point where merchandise went wild (there was even a kiddie ride!). The 1975 anime adaptation of the book, which is part of the World Masterpiece Theater series, is considered a classic there. A second TV anime, My Patrasche, made by a different animation studio and director, followed 17 years later, but is not nearly as well-known or well regarded as the WMT version. However, My Patrasche was broadcast in France, where the WMT version never aired. In the Philippines' case, whenever they talk about Dog of Flanders, the public refer to the My Patrasche version, even though the WMT version was also broadcasted there, partially due to My Patrasche being aired first in 1994 (the WMT version is aired later in the 2000s).
