YMMV / A Bay of Blood

• Catharsis Factor: Just when it looks like Albert and Renata would get away with their crimes, their kids kill them (by accident of course).
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Given that most of the cast are greedy murderers with few, if any, redeeming qualities, it's easy not to care what happens after most of the non-criminal characters die.
• Vindicated by History: In spite of criticism from industry folk like Christopher Lee (who is alleged to have walked out, mid-movie, over the violent nature of it), the film resurrected Mario Bava's career in Europe after a string of flops which cost a lucrative AIP studio distribution deal in the United States. However, the film was only given spotty distribution in the US on the grindhouse and drive-through film circuit and was largely unknown in the United States due to the numerous titles it was released under (the most famous of which being "A Bay of Blood"). But after it was released on DVD, it's now regarded as providing the blueprint for the 80s Slasher Movie. A lot of its kills have been imitated, ripped off, spoofed and homaged—most notably by Friday the 13th Part 2—but this one still retains its power to shock.
